Extended Summary

Man is a curious creature by nature. Curiosity starting from childhood and the desire to know the environment continue in later ages. However, due to the nature of life and profession, the subjects of interest may differ. It is important to learn with what intention, in which fields and in what way the curiosity, which is also the cornerstone of the academic world, is realized.

The aim of the research is to learn the connotation, causes, channels and results of academic stalking. For this purpose, face-to-face and online interviews were conducted with a total of twenty-three participants, fifteen academicians and eight graduate students. Then the interviews were transcribed and subjected to content analysis.

As a result of the analysis, academic stalking association was divided into two as academic and social life. The main reason for academic stalking has emerged as a sense of curiosity. It has been found that this sense of curiosity arises from introspection and tahassus. The channels of academic stalking were examined under two themes, academic life and social life. Social life theme is personality, social shares and ideology; The academic life theme was examined under the headings of scientific meetings, academic publications and academic relations. When it is considered in terms of academic stalking results, it has been found that these results, which may have positive and negative consequences, will determine the intention (investigation, commitment) of stalking. Among the positive effects of academic stalking, finding a new study topic, being happy and motivated by the sharing of teachers, specialization; Among the negative effects, it has been determined that there are alienation from the teachers, waste of time, open search and hostility.

As a result of this research, which is a conceptualization study, definitions of academic stalking, academic prying and academic tahassus were made.
